Back Home

Our 1st couple of weeks back at The Connection have flown by ! This past week, we were on our family vacation so i had TIME to reflect and process all that the Lord has done during this time !!! Now, I want to share it with all of you!

First, if you were surprised by our announcement that we were going to be back…so were we!!! We had a meeting with Shanda a few weeks ago and at that meeting she asked us if it were possible that God would be calling us back to Countryside. She was beginning to feel like her time there was over. My initial reaction was no! I had a list of reasons why we should not go back to Countryside! My own personal happiness was at the top of the list. Also we were doing great work for the Lord already. In the past year or so at our church, We have been seeing teens, college students, and even adults come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We are busy with 4 kids. I had other items on the list that are just between me and the Lord. . My list of reasons why we were not able to come back was long !!

However, we did agree to pray and seek God’s guidance on this matter.

I went to God in prayer HARD!!! I showed him my list ! Honestly, I feel like God laughed and pulled out his big pink eraser 😂😂😂The Lord began removing items from my list overnight….. seriously !!! The final straw happened for me when I said Lord … here is the main reason I feel like we can not do this. The next day, I received a phone call and it was as if the Lord said ok this obstacle is removed, now what?? I fell down on my face that night in prayer to our Holy God and Jason and I both said Lord we are your servants. If this is your will then, so be it !

Finally the next day, I asked God to provide me assurance in His Word. I am doing a study called No More Idols in my personal time with God, but on this night I just prayed and opened the Word. I opened the Word to Deuteronomy and the chapter that I opened up to was called “ The Blessing of Obedience”. (Chapter 28) Here is a little snippet from that chapter .

If you obey the Lord your God: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your livestock, both the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out…. The Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your womb, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground in the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open for you his rich storehouse, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all your undertakings. (Deut. 28:2-7; 11–12)

We serve a great and mighty God!!! Do not mistake this for prosperity Gospel…. I do not think that everything will be perfect in Countryside (I know better). I know that this transition will have ups and downs. But I believe the Lord was confirming to me what I already knew in my heart. He WAS calling our family back to a place and a people group that we love so dearly. I just needed to be obedient and walk in the calling he had already placed and opened up for me and for my family.

All of this before we even said yes!!!

Fast Forward……

Then….our 1st week happened !!!! We saw and hung out with all these wonderful people that we have missed so much!! The little children that came to homework helpers are now teenagers and just come up there to sit and hang out and talk. We have had so many people reach out and tell us to contact them because they want to serve! But the biggest thing happened for me last week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are doing a Bible study after Homework Time. Jason and I decided to start with the life of Jesus. What better place to start than at the coming of the Messiah !!! As I shared the 1st part of the story about Mary being pregnant with the Son of God, and how they could not find anywhere to stay I had a captivated audience!! I told them how an innkeeper told the couple that they could go to the stable and the kids just could not believe it. I stopped the story with Mary having the baby and placing him in a manger . As I prepared the cliff hanger for the next lesson, and told them that the couple was about to have some very unusual visitors… the children BEGGED me to keep going and I realized. Some of them were hearing this for the 1st time!!!

God used this first week to remind me of why he called us to this particular place at this particular time. Jason and I felt a call on our lives a long time ago. We asked for God to use us to share his name with the world. We have done that in many places…. Alaska, India, Africa. We kept knocking on doors and seeking out opportunities to do that. But, God placed us right here.(AGAIN) We are In a city that has people hungry and thirsting for righteousness. He is allowing us the privilege of continuing to tell HIS story and we are going to serve him right where we are!!

In the midst of this time in our lives, i am enjoying seeing the amazing movements of God. What awesome things is God calling you and your family to do? What amazing things have you seen him do this week or this month! Share with me in the comments !!
